CATALYSTS & ACCELERATORS
Polyklear Fiberglass + Resin carries top grade hardeners or catalysts and accelerators necessary to promote curing and is an integral part of any resin matrix.
Catalysts & Accelerators

BUTANOX HBO-50 IMPORTED CATALYST
Butanox HBO-50 Imported Catalyst is a methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) from Polyklear suitable for curing of unsaturated polyester resins. This type of catalyst gives low peak exothermic temperature but fast gel and cure rate, thus is especially suitable as curing agent for thick castings, where a high peak exothermic temperature may lead to cracking of resin. It is added to polyester and vinyl ester resins at 1-2% of resin weight.
⚠️Caution
Never mix MEKP catalyst with cobalt accelerator directly; such action might result in an explosion or combustion. Store in separate areas where mixing through accidental spillage is impossible. When working with resins, make sure the accelerator is thoroughly mixed with the resin first, before adding the catalyst.
Properties
Low water content
Gives low peak exothermic temperature to resin
Fast gelation and cure rate
Applications
Stone castings (statues, large figurines, etc.)
Thick, clear casts (resin lamps, home decors, etc.)

BUTANOX LPT-IN HARDENER
Butanox LPT-IN Hardener is a methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) from Polyklear is used for the curing of unsaturated polyester resins in the presence of cobalt accelerator at room and elevated temperatures. Compared to other MEKP catalysts, BUTANOX LPT-IN gives a significantly longer gel time, therefore a particularly excellent choice for applications with long production times such as the production of large parts and filament winding.
Gives very slow gelling to resin
Applications
Production of large laminates
Marine (yachts, boats, ships, etc.)
Automotive (car and bus bodies, trucks, etc.) Roofing sheets

BUTANOX M-50 IMPORTED CATALYST
An imported Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide (MEKP) catalyst from Polyklear Fiberglass + Resin used to cure unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins in the presence of a cobalt accelerator . The curing system of Butanox M50 is especially suitable for the curing of gelcoat and laminated resins. Because of its low water content and the absence of polar compounds, Butanox M-50 is very suitable for use in the production of GFRP products for marine applications.
Properties
Lowest active oxygen content
Chemically stable and consistent
Applications
Especially suitable for resins intended for use in:
Marine applications (boats, yachts, ships, surfboards, etc.)
Applications requiring water contact (storage tanks, pipes, etc.)
Gelcoat (prevents blistering)

BUTANOX M-50 VR IMPORTED RED CATALYST
Polyklear provide the most stable general purpose MEKP on the market for the curing of gelcoat resins, laminating resins and vinyl ester resins. Butanox M-50 VR has vanishing red dye to ensure that MEKP is visually identified during spray application and mixing with resin. The red color imparted by the catalyst in the liquid resin eventually disappears as the resin cures.
Vanishing red color
Chemically stable and consistent
Applications
Especially suitable for resins intended for use in:
Marine applications (boats, yachts, ships, surfboards, etc.)
Applications requiring water contact (storage tanks, pipes, etc.)

POLYKLEAR COBALT CLEAR SPECIAL
A cobalt-based, purplish liquid solution added as part of the resin matrix to purposely accelerate the curing of unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins. Polyklear Cobalt Clear Special does not affect resin color at cured state. It is added to resin at 0.5 to 1% of resin weight.
⚠️Caution
Never mix cobalt accelerator and MEKP catalyst directly; such action might result in an explosion or combustion. Store in separate areas where mixing through accidental spillage is impossible. When working with resins, make sure the accelerator is thoroughly mixed with the resin first, before adding the catalyst.
Properties
6% Metal Solution
Cobalt based
Applications
Accelerates the curing of polyester and vinyl ester resins

POLYKLEAR COBALT RED
A cobalt-based, purplish liquid solution added as part of the resin matrix to purposely accelerate the curing of unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins. Polyklear Cobalt Red imparts reddish color on resin at cured state.
Cobalt based
Imparts reddish color to resin at cured state
Applications
Accelerates the curing of polyester and vinyl ester resins

POLYKLEAR LOCAL CATALYST
Polyklear Local Catalyst is locally produced catalyst with low MEKP content thus, least reactive to provide increase fabrication window allowance.
It is added to polyester and vinyl ester resins at 4-6% of resin weight.
⚠️Caution
Never mix MEKP catalyst with cobalt accelerator directly; such action might result in an explosion or combustion. Store in separate areas where mixing through accidental spillage is impossible. When working with resins, make sure the accelerator is thoroughly mixed with the resin first, before adding the catalyst.
Properties
Slow rate of hardening
Applications
